CCM Family,
Thank you for taking the time to read through this important church update. For those who were not with us in attendance this morning, we announced a few important upcoming changes for the future leadership and direction of City Church.
First, we announced that Brent Shoemaker has made the decision to transition out of his role as Lead Pastor of City Church Marietta. Brent has sensed a calling from the Lord to move into a full-time role as he launches a non-profit ministry he started years ago called Seal Team Ministries. Seal Team invests in the hearts and lives of middle and high school aged boys, teaching them how to follow Jesus, fight for each other, lead the way and serve others in an accountable community. We are incredibly grateful for the investment the Shoemaker family has made to City Church over the past 7 and a half years. The Lord has blessed our church immensely through their sacrifice, care, and leadership. City Church Marietta will financially support this beginning for the Shoemaker family.
With this transition, we also announced that Eugene Fidell will assume the role of Lead Pastor for City Church Marietta. As many of you know, Brent and Eugene launched City Church together more than 7 years ago and Eugene and his family have been faithful to this church from the beginning. Eugene has played a key role on the teaching team since the church’s launch and has led various aspects of our day-to-day function, namely administrative, discipleship, and financial. His wife Caroline has also been a key part of our staff in her role as Worship Leader. We’re excited to welcome Eugene to the role of Lead Pastor and can’t wait to see what God does through he and the Fidell family.
Finally, given this transition, and, to support Eugene as well as the church body going forward, we announced that we have expanded our Elder Team. Our church leadership structure follows a plural elder model, with a Board of Elders responsible for the most important decisions in the care of the church. The updated Elder Team is listed below.
Eugene Fidell
Kevin Cash
Mark Frazer
Brandon Watts
Cecil Akrong
Phillip Galbreath
Brad Meriwether
If you have any questions about the transition, please feel free to reach out to us at elders@citychurchmarietta.org
Thank you for praying for us, the Shoemakers, Fidells, and our entire church body as we look ahead to the future and Jesus continuing to bring life to the broken places in our hearts, homes, city and world!
